What Is Tubal Ligation Reversal Procedure?
Surgical reversal of a previous tubal ligation (also known as “untying the tubes”) is one of the most effective tubal reconstructive surgeries available. Tubal ligation is a type of sterilization in which the fallopian tubes are cut or burned to permanently prevent pregnancy. Reversal of tubal ligation is performed by using magnification and microsurgical techniques and should only be performed by surgeons with expertise in this procedure. In these cases, the tubes remain open after surgery 70-80% of the time.
The surgery requires a stay in the hospital of 1 night. The patient, after a tubal reversal procedure, should allow the normal time and number of attempts to get pregnant before resorting to other modalities.
Again, this procedure is for patients who DO NOT want to attempt in vitro fertilization.
Although in vitro fertilization does bypass the fallopian tube, it has to be repeated, on occasion several times; and every time a patient desires a pregnancy. Every time in vitro fertilization is attempted the patient incurs expenses.
Our Experience & Your Positive Outcome
We have more than 30 years of experience in performing tubal ligation reversal. The surgical outcomes and pregnancy rates are excellent.
However, the appropriateness of the procedure for a patient depends on age, hormonal status, and method of tubal ligation, uterine assessment, and partner’s status. The procedure is approximately $15,000, and our office may be able to arrange a payment plan for you.
